Q's of the Day:
12/7--Define 'organic' 12/8--In what ways can the relatively short growing season of the Pacific Northwest be extended? (growing earlier in spring and later into fall) 12/9--What is the climate like here (in PNW)? What abiotic factors affect climate? 12/10--Draw a mind map for crop rotation (why, how, effects) 12/11--Before planning a garden, what are important factors to think about? -------Notebook Check------- 1/5--Why use scientific names? What do they tell us? 1/6--Write down the common name, scientific name, and planting instructions for the seeds you have planted 1/7 --Why should some plants be pruned? Most plants should be pruned in the winter; why do you think this is? 1/8--Why are invasive plant species 'bad' for an ecosystem? 1/12--We know that Nitrogen is a necessary and limiting nutrient for plant growth, but WHY is it needed for plant growth? Think about the cellular level if possible, but also just speculate how the plant uses Nitrogen 1/13--Make a list of 5 plants that you think we should grow for the plant sale 1/15--What is a 'weed' in the garden? -------Notebook Check------- 1/20--Phosphorous is another limited plant nutrient; how do you think that it is used in plant growth and also how it functions at the cellular level? 1/21--Draw your plant seedling then label the parts for seed germination 1/22--What does 'sustainable' mean? 1/26--Come up with a 'tagline' or slogan for your Plant Sale theme. 1/28--Not all plants are green (but most are); why is this? 1/29--How does water get from the soil to the tippy top of a 200 ft. Doug. fir? 2/2 -- Why is today so awesome!? 2/3 -- List components of soil (at least 10 different components) 2/5 -- How did agriculture alter human civilization? -------Notebook Check------- 2/9 -- 2/10 -- 2/18 -- Look up the definition of "phenology" How might global climate change impact your plant BFF? (think like a phenologist) -------Notebook Check------- |
